Galerie Peter Kurgan
Potsdam painter and photographer Peter Kurgan has worked as a freelance artist for over twenty years. He is particularly fond of the Spanish Canary Island Lanzarote. On Lanzarote and in his Potsdam studio, he creates works of art that are entirely unique: they “grow” for months in a special process using heat, negative pressure, various types of sand and a secret binding agent. In the early days of his painting, Peter Kurgan was mainly interested in depicting the character of the fire island of Lanzarote. Today his technique and the range of materials he uses – mainly consisting of over 40 different types of sand from different deserts and continents – have been refined to such an extent that his paintings not only radiate a distinctive energy but also achieve remarkable 3D effects. Since 2006, Galerie Peter Kurgan has been located in the heart of the Potsdam's Dutch Quarter.
